Yasir Abbasi is the Clinical Director for Addiction Services at Mersey Care NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. He was a member of the Addictions to Medicine Task force set up by PHE, Yorkshire & Humber region. In 2013 he was awarded the doctor of the year award by Yorkshire Evening Post. He is currently the chair for the North British Association for Addiction Professionals and is also a founding trustee of P.A.I.N (Pain Killer Addiction Information Network) charity. He is the regional specialty representative for the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has a special interest in prescription drug dependence and is involved in the all parties parliamentary group set up to address this issue. He has appeared at various media outlets and written in newspapers to raise awareness around issues related to substance misuse.
